Sospita vigintiguttata - Inbetweeny
Today Jeanette spotted another Sospita vigintiguttata in the garden. Always a highlight to find this scarce species and in the garden no less, even if on this one the elytra are heavily damaged/dented on both sides, but it was still alive :o)
Couldn´t resist taking another mugshot and managed it a bit closer this time:
This "wreck" nicely shows an "inbetweeny" state of colouring: In fall, the newly born are brown with white spots and over winter they gain more intense colours to reach a black with yellow pattern. This one in early spring is "inbetween" the two states, with the pale spots having a hard time deciding if they want to be yellow or white. For comparison here are the "fresh" and "mature" colours:

Sospita vigintiguttata (Linnaeus 1758) is a Ladybird Beetle with a Palearctic distribution. It is known from a large number of countries ranging from the Iberian peninsula to eastern Russia (probably), but it is rare or scarce over it's entire range.
