  1. A large an impressively shimmering beetle which is a sure sign the spring proper and summer are here.

    Although this photograph shows one on Hemp Agrimony in my garden, what they always seem to love most is my spring flowering California Lilac.

"Cetonia aurata", called the rose chafer or, sometimes, the green rose chafer or goldsmith beetle, is a beetle, 20 mm long, that has a metallic green colouration and a distinct V-shaped scutellum.
