Cluster Fly - Pollenia sp.
I found this fly lying on the snow, on its back and nearly dead. I carried it around in my hand for awhile to see if it would revive. After a few minutes, it started to twitch a bit. But, outdoor temps were 10F (-12C) and we were expecting nearly half a foot of snow. So, I did the unthinkable and took the fly inside and killed it in my freezer. I rationalize that it would have died outside anyway and was nearly dead when I found it. I figured that it would be a good chance for me to play around with my indoor lighting and take some diagnostic shots. Sorry fly!
