  1. Great to see one in a natural habitat, all my sightings have been within my home or on its exterior! Careful with your ID though Ernst...I understand the two species L. cylindrata and L. murina are not easily distinguished without microscopic examination, near impossible with the naked eye. 1. Yes Ruth for me is the same ,only up until this one I only remember them in the house or within the vicinity of the house. As far as distribution goes Lampona‘s distribution entails South Australia and Lampona .murina is along the east coast and into Victoria. Only knowing the location makes it easy in this case. Both species side by side it would be impossible without a microscopic examination. Posted 4 years ago, modified 4 years ago
      1. I'm afraid it's not that clear cut. It is difficult to distinguish ALL Lampona species without microscopic examination. An example here are the L. murina that had been found in eastern Queensland before Platnick's revision in 2000 were thought to be the common L. cylindrata, widespread elsewhere in Australia. One only has to see the articles/research on line (indeed, I have personally asked Robert Raven, Professor of Australian Arachnology (Head of Terrestrial Biodiversity and the Senior Curator at the Queensland Museum) about this particular genus. He advised me to label any sightings I had in future by genus only. Posted 4 years ago, modified 4 years ago
        1. Thanks both for the constructive discussion. Have removed the ID for now, hope that's OK, Ernst.
Not to worry, also in this state it can easily be found via search and tags.

        2. Thanks Ruth no problem it was just that only cylindrata was listed for SA and murina for the eastern coast and Vic. Posted 4 years ago
