Giant Water Bug - Belostomatidae
This photo shows this bug getting air at the surface of the water. The silvery sheen on its abdomen is from air bubbles that have gotten trapped in its hairs and will then travel to the spiracles and into the insect's respiratory system.
Habitat: Woodland pond; captured and photographed at home.
