Hi Christine, Podabrus: Yes. P. brimleyi: Don't think so. Not at all sure it would even be the same species as your other shot. For this one I would have a first look at maybe Podabrus intrusus or brunnicollis. Going by the images on BugGuide (if these are correct) the latter seems to be crazy variable (I have some doubts, frankly).

Okay, couldn't help myself *rolleyes* ... so the 1st key linked above would land me on Podabrus brunnicollis poricollis, much rather than intrusus. That is within the limitations of what's recognizable/plausible from this one image ... Please don't take my "tinkering" as an ID - just fun 'n games :o)

    I just got a suggestion for Rhagonycha sp. for this beetle! I think Rhagonycha cruralis seems very close to a match, but am not sure at this point. Posted 4 years ago
