Springtail w. long bicoloured antennae, Malang, Java, IDN Okay, so this will conclude my backlog of old, barely recognizable Collembola images for now.<br />
Botanical garden, Malang, Java, Indonesia, August 2010<br />
Couldn&#039;t readily find an ID, but maybe someone will see it and know something. Despite the bad photo it can be seen that it certainly is a conspicuous species with the very long bicoloured antennae and a possibly diagnostic dorsal pattern(?), so maybe ... 1. That feeling when you google for "springtails Indonesia" and this is the first hit. Anyway, would family Paronellinae be too wild of a guess? Posted 4 years ago
    1. Yes, that certainly looks like a fair thesis - thanks. I'm planning to mail Frans about some Springtails and I'll be sure to toss this one into the mix .... Posted 4 years ago
      1. Make use of this ancient internet wisdom: the fastest way to a correct answer is to post the wrong answer.

So you contact Frans and say you've discovered these 7 new species. After which he will be triggered and super motivated to point out their real IDs.

        Job done.

        1. Yes, I was indeed planning something devious along those lines ;o) But pssst, Frans might read here later ... Posted 4 years ago
          1. We'll just delete this sub thread. Just say the word. Posted 4 years ago
            1. Nah, I'm confident that he'll be too obsessed by the excellent photo to read the comments ;o) Posted 4 years ago
  2. I'm pretty much in awe of how many springtails (and other odd critters) you have photographed. Posted 4 years ago
    1. Don't say that. Say to Arp that we have only 30. It works like a red cloth on a bull.

      hi, Arp :)

      1. Although, bulls are color blind, aren't they? I don't think they can see red. They respond to the aggressive/annoying movement of the cape, in addition to the fact that they had already been pissed off before being let loose in the ring. Posted 4 years ago
        1. But, ahem..."Arp, we only have 30! We need more photos. Pretend you are a bull who for some reason doesn't like the color red and add more photos." Posted 4 years ago
          1. Well ... a few days back Ferdy pulled the red cloth trick on me by mentioning we already had 20 species ;o) By the time all recently uploaded images are properly ID's it 'll have almost (not quite) doubled ... I'm afraid I can't get much more "pissed off" than that for now :-|
Probably ladybird larvae are up next - just got a request from Bernhard Klausnitzer to provide them with some images for a new issue of their book, so I'll be looking through that _huge_ backlog soon ;o)

            1. Ohhh, well...We could always use more images of ladybird larvae! *waving red cloth at you* Posted 4 years ago
