A couple of years ago I noticed two types of galls on Pistacia terebinthus. Photos taken in Greece, Sithonia.
This type of galls is cased by the Bean root aphids - Smynthurodes betae.

In more northern parts of Europe, where the primary hosts do not occur, the species may live without host alternation on grasses. The aphids on their secondary host plants have a strong association with ants; they also hibernate in ants’ nests.

Smynthurodes betae is a specvies of aphids. Where the primary host (Pistacia) is found, the bean root aphid goes through its full life cycle, host alternating from Pistacia to numerous secondary hosts, especially in the Asteraceae (Artemisia, Arctium), Fabaceae (Phaseolus, Vicia, Trifolium), and Solanaceae (Solanum tuberosum, Lycopersicon esculentum) - and sometimes on Beta, Brassica, Capsella, Gossypium, Heliotropum, Rumex, and others. Smynthurodes betae can persist on its secondary hosts as anholocyclic.. more
