  1. My guess would be Tipula genus, yet this still leaves a lot of options. Are you willing to share the US state this was photographed in? Perhaps it narrows options down somewhat. Posted 4 years ago

        ...which admittedly isn't super easy to follow, yet may help narrow it down and to understand which parts of the species matter. Almost surely yours is in sub family Tipulinae.

        Don't have the time to study this guide today, but a female Tipula longiventris I'd say is a species that is "warm". Maybe not an exact match, but getting close.
