Harvestman vs Spider Side by side to show the difference in body shape between a harvestman and spider.<br />

Body shape: Harvestmen (Opiliones) have the cephalothorax and abdomen fused into one unit (in Spiders the abdomen is separated by a slender waist, somewhat similar to wasps)<br />
<br />
Eyes: Harvestmen have a single pair of eyes, central on top of the cephalothorax. Spiders have 6-8 eyes in various configuratuions<br />
<br />
Venom: Harvestmen don&#039;t have venom glands in their jaws<br />
<br />
Silk: Harvestmen do not posses nipples for spinning silk.  <br />

  1. Very cool. Makes me wonder why harvestmen have such big bodies. What is the purpose? Also, their eyes are tiny. Posted 5 years ago
    1. In truth, their bodies are more "compact" with the cephalothorax and abdomen fused into one "body" - it's a more primitive, simple construction. Other Arachnids such as Mites (Acari) share this "feature". Posted 5 years ago
