Banded Fishing Spider (Dolomedes vittatus) ♀ with Young At a dense mixed forest edge. This is the largest spider I&#039;ve seen (besides tarantulas)! She had some prey that I couldn&#039;t identify. The young were in a silken shelter (?) near mother spider and would flutter/rearrange themselves at the sound of my voice!<br />

  1. This is one epic shot, Lisa! Razor sharp, awesome species, as well as telling a huge story of its life cycle. All in one shot. Be proud. Posted 5 years ago
    1. Thank you so much, Ferdy! That really does mean a lot. If I would have thought about it, I would have gotten video of the spiderling behavior! It was so neat! Posted 5 years ago
  2. I am fascinated to learn that the spiderlings even picked up the vocal vibrations. Very much enjoyed seeing these shots, superb arachnid behavioural documentation. Posted 5 years ago
    1. Thank you, Ruth! We were pretty thrilled to meet her, but we must admit that we were a bit intimidated by her size. She was around 4 inches wide! Posted 5 years ago
  3. This is fantastic! Posted 5 years ago
