Distribution

"Menemerus semilimbatus" is a Mediterranean species widely distributed in Europe, southern Asia and in Africa. In the Americas, it has been reported for Argentina, Chile and USA.
Jumping Spider Santa Pola, España (2012).
The Salticidae are a family of small hunting spiders noted for their agility in jumping and sight, unusually effective among spiders. These spiders are small, generally only a few millimeters. The body seems covered with hairs sometimes flaky, sometimes iridescent. Four of their eight eyes are directed frontally. They are able to focus and move, changing its direction and sometimes move rhythmically to detect prey. The frontal eyes provide stereoscopic vision, while the lateral ones complete a view of 360 °. Their effective vision is exceptional not only among the spiders, but also among the arthropods. They are able to jump with precision in any direction, also sideways or backwards. When the weather is bad or approaching night, they spin a little cocoon which serves as a refuge.
