Distribution

In Bulgaria it is not uncommon and may be seen above 1500 m in the Forebalkan, Stara Planina (Western, Central, Eastern), Znepole Region, West Frontier Mountains, Vitosha, Rila, Pirin, Belasitsa, Rodopi (Western, Central, Eastern), and Sredna Gora. The flowering period largely depends on the altitude as the species appears immediately after the snow melt. It starts in March, but in high mountains in areas with persisting snow patches single flowering plants may be seen even in July. Usually the plant is abundant and during flowering gives violet aspect of large areas
