Celery-leaved alexanders

Smyrnium creticum

It is a plant of the genus Smyrnium. Smyrnium are erect, branching biennials with broadly oblong, divided lower leaves and rounded upper leaves. In late spring and early summer they produce branched umbels of small, greenish-yellow flowers.

Appearance

Hairless, biennial. Stem up to 130 cm.
Lobes of basal leaves oblong cuneate. Lower cauline leaves three partite. Stem hollow, much branched.
Flowers in rays of 15-20. Bracts and bracteolaes absent. Petals yellow.

Distribution

Aegean region and W&S Anatolia.

Habitat

Rocky slopes, gorges, stream beds and ruderal habitats.
