Appearance

Distinguished from other members of the genus by the black hind coxae and usually mostly red abdomen (sometimes blacker in smaller males). The head and thorax are black with white at the bases of the antennal sockets and on the tegulae. The fore and mid legs have whitish trochanters, fulvous femora, and whitish tibiae and tarsi. The hind legs have black and fulvous trochanters with the femora through tarsi fulvous. Females have the ovipositor about 1.45x the length of the forewing. Males have 3 tubercles on the outer side of the mid coxae.

Eastern US (ME south to GA, west to MN & TX)
