Trifolium vavilovii

Trifolium vavilovii is an annual plant in the Fabaceae family. named after the great Russian Botanist, Nikolai Vavilov.
Trifolium vavilovii In the 1930's, science in the holy land (Israel wasn't established yet) was just beginning. the main person responsible for Botanical studies in Israel was Prof. Alexander Eig - a Jewish botanist that came from Russia. Nikolai Vavilov was a world-renowned botanist at that time, studying the origins of cereals like wheat, corn and other important food plants. he visited Eig in Jerusalem - came for a week, but stayed over a month, and made a big impression on the young Israeli botanists. Eig commemorated the visit when he named this Trifolium after Vavilov. Sadly, the end of the story wasn't that wonderful: Eig died at a young age of cancer, and Vavilov was imprisoned by Stalin for having a mind of his own and died in prison.
