Four subspecies are recognized:⤷ "S. p. personata" - Sharpe, 1895: Found in eastern Ethiopia
⤷ "S. p. yavelloensis" - : Found in southern Ethiopia and northern Kenya
⤷ "S. p. mcchesneyi" - : Found on the Marsabit Plateau
⤷ "S. p. intensa" - : Found in central Kenya
