
Appearance
The free apices (forks) usually grow from the axils of the 2-3 uppermost leaves on a peduncle 1-3 cm long; flowers are 5-flowered, 7-10 mm in diameter; calyx tips are narrowly lanceolate, about 2 mm long; corolla is yellow, with tips 2.8-3.8 mm long; the rhizome is half-constricted and its tips are broadly ovate, obtuse; stamens are 5; the seedpods are clustered from 2 carpels. The fruits are pairs of 3-6 cm long, glabrous, spindle-shaped bladders.Note: In southern Europe there are several subspecies of Tolita medical (Vincetoxicum hirundinaria), differing especially in the dress of the stem and crown, and in the shape of the rhizome; some, like this one, are further conspicuously distinguished by the yellow colour of the crown.

it is native to the Balkan Peninsula, where it grows in Albania, Northern Macedonia, Greece and Bulgaria; its occurrence in other parts of the former Yugoslavia and in the European part of Turkey is uncertain.Ascends to altitudes of 700-2000 m.
