Hudsonian godwit

The Hudsonian godwit is a large shorebird in the sandpiper family, Scolopacidae. The genus name "Limosa" is from Latin and means "muddy", from "limus", "mud". The specific "haemastica" is from Ancient Greek and means "bloody".
