White Seabream

Diplodus lineatus

Formerly classified as Diplodus sargo lineatus, this is a fish of the family Sparidae endemic of Cabo Verde Islands.

Appearance

Compressed body as is typycal of the family. It is mainly silver and is adorned with black markings which allow it to be identified. The posterior edge of the caudal fin has a black rounded marking. The caudal peduncle has a rounded black spot on its upper part. Four to five dark bands bar the flanks vertically.

Distribution

Eastern Central Atlantic: Cape Verde Islands.

Status

Least Concern.

Habitat

Inhabits rocky bottoms interspersed with sand in near-shore waters to about 30 m depth or slightly more.

Food

Feeds on seaweeds and benthic invertebrates.
