Sizes of the Myrmecia pyriformis ranges around 14-23 millimetres long. Mandibles and many other features are dark red. Female workers however tend to get as big as 26 millimetres while males only grow to 18-20 millimetres long. Thorax's sometimes get a blackish-brown colour.

Behavior

Myrmecia pryformis is known to survive without a queen. While some species of Myrmecia possess the gamergates, Myrmecia pyriformis is known to be one of those species where female worker ants are also able to reproduce. A colony of the genus was collected in 1998 without a queen, but the colony could continue reproducing workers for the next three years.
