Appearance
Hemicryptophyte. Perennial herbaceous plant, thick strain. Basal leaves in a rosette, up to 10 x 5 cm, cuneate, spatulate, obtuse, fleshy, entire with up to 7 apical teeth, glabrescent. Minor cauline leaves, lanceolate to linear. Inflorescence in corymb, up to 8 chapters. Heads up to 12 mm in diameter. Two rows of bracts, the outer one with 4-6. External bracts up to 7 mm long, hairy, broadly linear, scarious margins. Smaller external bracts, without scarious margin, linear. Yellow flowers. Ligules up to 13. Fruit in cypsela, achene up to 5 mm, hairy.Distribution
Ibero-North African element present with isolated populations in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula. In Murcia it is only known from the gypsum area of El Rincón (Lorca).Habitat
It lives in albardinales and thyme groves on margoyesiferous substrates with a certain salinity, within the mesomediterranean floor with a semi-arid ombrotype. It coexists with Centaurium quadrifolium, Frankenia thymifolia, Herniaria fruticosa subsp. erecta, Lygeum spartum, Teucrium balthazaris, etc.References:
