Appearance

Ophiopogon jaburan is a short-lived plant with wider grass-like leaves and is also slightly taller than the other species. Flowers with a curved spike of small lilac-white bells followed by blue-black berries.

Naming

Also known as Mondo grass.

Distribution

Native to Japan, cultivated in other warm temperate to tropical East, Southeast, and South Asia areas.

Habitat

Grows in moist but well-drained, humus-rich, preferably acidic soil. Tolerates dry periods but no hot afternoon sun.

Uses

Ornamental, gardening.
