Appearance

Podetia unbranched, pointed or more often terminating in small, abruptly widened cups with a crown-like ring of shortly stalked brown pycnidia around the margin, podetial surface sorediate and with corticate patches and small squamules, these sometimes with distinct yellow or yellow-green tints when very fresh but drying more grey-green, more continuously corticate towards the base of the podetium, also partly corticate within the cups; basal squamules incised, white beneath, often sparsely sorediate on margins; apothecia brown, developed on the margins of the podetial cups.
