Nineta flava

Nineta flava

Nineta flava (Scopoli, 1763) is one of the species of Green lacewings (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) of the genus Nineta, that sports a range of on average somewhat larger species.

Appearance

Like most Nineta this species is fairly large for a (European) Lacewing and has no obvious markings on the head and a the first cross vein Rs-M joining M along the side of the cell Im (unlike Chrysoperla or Peyerimhoffina). The fore edge of the wing (costa) is concave, but sometimes only slightly so (a feature share with N. principae). The veins in the wing are completely green with only the cross veins in the costal field sometimes a tad darker at the base (in N. principae these are clearly black at the base as well as at the top). The (first, larger antenna segmentis (scape/scapus) is slightly longer than wide, but clearly not two times as long as wide as it would be in N. vittata.
