Appearance

Inflorescences are dense, the lowermost 1-5 flowers bracteate. Flowers 0.9-1.5 cm. Calyx 5-7 mm.; sepals erect, hispid, sometimes violet, equal. Petals about twice as long as sepals, yellow, purple-veined.
Fruit 3-10 cm., erect-spreading pedicel, terete, torulose, recurved-arcuate, hispid; lower joint 0-1-seeded; upper joint many-seeded, separating into 1-seeded segments and with a 0.5-1.2 cm. long, conical beak.
