Pterocaesio digramma

The double-lined fusilier is a fusilier of the genus ''Pterocaesio''. Also known as the banana fish, it is the prefectural fish of Okinawa, Japan, where it is known as ''gurukun'' in Okinawan and ''takasago'' in Japanese.

During the day they are silvery blue and the two lines are yellow but at night they change their color to reddish.

Distribution

Double-lined fusiliers are widespread in the Western Pacific, ranging from Indonesia to Western Australia, New Caledonia and northwards to Japan. They are found in coastal areas, primarily around coral reefs.

Uses

''Gurukun'' are widely eaten in Okinawan cuisine, mostly commonly served deep-fried as ''kara-age''.
