Appearance

Growing to 3 m tall in open ground, it is an evergreen climber. They are matte green and covered in silver blotches. The insignificant flowers are rarely seen in cultivation.

Naming

The specific epithet ''pictus'' means "painted", referring to the variegation on the leaves.

Uses

With a minimum temperature tolerance of 15 °C , this plant is cultivated as a houseplant in temperate regions, where it typically grows to 90 cm. The cultivar 'Argyraeus' has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
