Limonium bourgeaui belongs to the group of species whose main floral escapes are winged. It differs by its leaves, which are pubescent and long and petiolated.

Naming

Limonium bourgeaui was described by (Webb ex Webb) Kuntze and published in Generum Plantarum Review 2: 395. 1891.1 2

Etymology
Limonium: generic name that comes from the Greek leimon, which means "wet meadow", referring to the habitat of many of the species of the genus.3

Bourgeaui: species dedicated to Eugène Bourgeau (1815-1877), traveler and French botanist, who collected mainly in the Canary Islands and in the Mediterranean region.

Distribution

This species is included in the Catalog of Endangered Species of the Canary Islands, as sensitive to the alteration of its habitat, in the islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

Status

The species is threatened by drought cycles, grazing, collecting and traditional gathering.

Habitat

In cliffs, walls and slopes generally inaccessible oriented to the N-NW of the islands.

Reproduction

Hermaphrodite, presumably allogamous, with heteromorphism. Hermaphrodite species that presents the two types of Cob and Pap morphs, typical of the family and therefore, presumably allogamous. Pollination is entomophilic. The flowering is annual with almost 100% of the reproductive individuals; seminal production and germination performance are high but not all of its flowers produce seeds
