Rice ear bug

Leptocorisa oratoria

''Leptocorisa oratoria'', the rice ear bug, is an insect from the family Alydidae, the broad-headed bugs. This species is commonly confused with ''Leptocorisa acuta'', a similar and closely related species, called the rice earhead bug.
Leptocorisa cf. oratoria Pretty darn sure this must be oratoria as well, but the dorsal characters for ID as featured in many keys are unreliable IMHO and I don't have a ventral shot of this one. Appearance

It has a slender body, around 2 cm length, with long legs and a long proboscis. It is yellow-brown in color.
Leptocorisa oratoria - Lateral The dark spots on the venter are diagnostic vs the otherwise very similar looking Leptocorisa acuta.

Behavior

When disturbed, the bug gives off an unpleasant smell in defense.

Females lay around 100-200 eggs on the leaves of the rice plant . The eggs hatch into green-colored nymphs, which gradually turn brown as they grow into adults.
