Appearance
The wingspan 13–18 mm. The ground color of the forewings is white with grayish-brown bands and dark speckling. The hindwings are white with a dark median band, a patch of dark speckling near the costa and a line of black pale-centered spots along the outer margin. Adults are on wing from late May to October.
Naming
It was described by James Brackenridge Clemens in 1860.
Food
The larvae are aquatic and probably feed on diatoms and algae.References:
