Appearance

Their coloration is not very showy as they are nocturnal moths and for that reason their colors are usually dark because it serves as mimicry to camouflage themselves from predators.

Females and males vary very little in their colors, except that females have more robust abdomen, while males have a longer and thinner abdomen.

The larvae have very striking coloration with several colors. Likewise, as it passes from one stage to another, its colors become more intense.

Food

Larvae feed on plants in the Melastomataceae family, such as Conostegia xalapensis and Miconia argentea. Individuals collected in dry forest have been found feeding on Miconia argentea, while those in the rainforest seem to prefer Conostegia xalapensis.
