Appearance

Max length : 8.0 cm. Dorsal spines (total): 7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 8.

Naming

The scientific name of the species was first validly published in 1901 by Jordan & Snyder.

Distribution

Northwest Pacific: Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Reports from the Indian Ocean are based on specimens of Apogon bryx and those from the Philippines by Fowler and Bean (1930) are Apogon fasciatus.

Status

IUCN: Not Evaluated.

Behavior

Occurs mainly in shallow waters and tide pools. Solitary or in small groups.

Habitat

Marine; brackish; reef-associated; depth range 0 - 50 m, usually 8 - 39 m. Tropical.

Reproduction

Mouthbrooders. Distinct pairing during courtship and spawning.

Food

Zooplankton (Cyclops, pods...)
Small crustaceans (Krill, mysis, artemia...)
