Saga natoliae
It is the largest species of European Saga and more generally the largest European insect, if we take into account the ovipositor. Males measure from 52 mm to 82 mm and females measure from 60 mm to 89 mm, to which the ovipositor must be added from about 30 mm to 45 mm. S. natoliae is green or brown with usually a reddish-brown head. In the brown form, the coxa, trochanter, and femur of the first two pairs of legs are usually black. Like most other species of the genus, it is a relatively fine animal. The male has short wings measuring about half the length of the pronotum while the female is completely wingless. The ovipositor is slightly arched upwards.
