A variety of Rudbeckia hirta. Woodland Black-Eyed Susan is an annual, biennial, or ephemeral perennial in the Asteraceae (Sunflower) family. It is common found in open forests, roadsides, and disturbed areas.

It can be differentiated from other varieties by its coarsely pubescent, leafy stems and ovate to petiolate basal leaves with coarsely serrate margins.
