Appearance

Large and distinctly robust beetle that is dull black in color. The elytra are deeply striated. Carina extends from elytral humerus for about 1/3 the length of the elytra. It has two pairs of lateral setae on the pronotum. It is 18-27 mm in length.

Food

Genus is reported to feed on snails. This species has also been reported to feed on salamander eggs.
