Meridiastra calcar

Meridiastra calcar is a seastar species found in Australia.
Carpet Sea Star (Meridiastra calcar) An eight-armed sea star with greenish grey colouring. The arms showed some red along the margins. The body pattern included small white scalloping and the central disc was a beautiful green. 
The arms were well defined ending in thick rounded tips. 
This sea star was about 50 mm across.

Appearance

Flattened with seven to nine (usually eight), distinct, short arms (less than width of central disc), with acutely rounded webbed divisions between each arm. Aboral surface with minute scale-like apprearance, colour variable, including purple, green, white, yellow, orange, red, brown and grey.

Distribution

Temperate inshore areas from Currumbin, Qld south to Tasmania and west to Albany, WA. Depth range 0-3 m.
