Black Bark Mantid

The Black Bark Mantid (Paraoxypilus tasmaniensis Saussure, 1870) is one of the Australian species of "Boxer Bark Mantids" (genus Paraoxypilus). It is a small (20-30mm) species, with clear sexual dimorfism in that the males are winged and slightly longer and te females are unwinged and more robust with remarkable camouflage while sitting on bark awaiting prey to pass by and catch.
