
Appearance
Highland species. Mesonotum twice length of pronotum.Female : apterous and granulose, generally green with reddish/purple/brownish bands and blotches. Base of femora red with green areas. Head of female with a couplet of hand-like crowns with 4-5 spines extending out from midline. Legs with small spines. Anterior part of pronotum before transverse ridge with large pair of median spines. Posterior pronotum with pair of smaller spines behind it and more laterally. Posterior margin of mesonotum with a small pair of more lateral spines anteriorly and pair of larger spines posteriorly nearer to posterior margin. Posterior margin of metanotum and abdominal segments 1-10 with 1st and 2nd paired median spines. Lateral margins of mesothorax, metathorax and abdomen with spines.
Length of female : 48 - 62 mm
Male less spinoes. Minute spines on legs. Generally brownish with orangey mesosternum. Mesonotum, metasternum and metapleura yellowish. Head with pair of hand-like crowns with 4-5 spines extending out from midline. Pronotum without large spines. Anterior mesonotum with bunch of 2-4 small spines. Posterior margin of mesonotum with 2 small tubercles. Wings long reaching to almost end of 6th abdominal segment.
Length of male : 46 - 54 mm
Naming
Parastheneboea imponens (Brunner 1907) is transferred to the genus Galactea.The subspecies name of Galactea imponens imponens is newly classified by Dr. Francis Seow-Choen in his Book, A Taxanomic Guide to the Stick Insects of Borneo, published in May 2016.
Distribution
