The Thorny flathead is a flathead that is native to the Indian Ocean and western Pacific Ocean.
Thorny Flathead - Rogadius pristiger Thorny Flathead - Rogadius pristiger as its name implies, has a flattened head.  They are usually found at sandy bottom, buried in the sand with only their face exposed.  They are ambushed predators waiting for their prey to swim pass them.

Distribution

Indo-West Pacific: Red Sea, Madagascar and Gulf of Oman; northern Indian Ocean; Indonesia, Gulf of Thailand, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, the Arafura Sea, northwest shelf of Australia and New Caledonia. Recently reported from Tonga.
