Female Red-veined Darter (Sympetrum fonscolombii)
While my friends went for a day in Barcelona, I took a long and VERY hot walk with my camera, into the windy but dry, stony hills which overlook Sitges in Spain, at the height of summer.
If I had seen nothing else, this female Red-veined Darter would have made the day worthwhile, despite the difficulty climbing to where I could see her take characteristic short sorties to and from her observation post.
She allowed me to get as close as I dared, without disturbing her.
More information with an accompanying video can be viewed here:

The Red-veined darter or Nomad is a dragonfly of the genus "Sympetrum". It is a common species in southern Europe and from the 1990s onwards has increasingly been found in northwest Europe, including Britain and Ireland.

It was blustery, so you just have to wait for the pauses.
And yes, it was REALLY hot.
Can you add photos to comments, not already in the Jungle?
