Purple Hairstreak Butterfly (Favonius quercus) There&#039;s a very good reason this photograph was taken at full zoom.<br />

It was the closest I good get (despite climbing the tree itself) to these super elusive, beautiful Purple Hairstreak butterflies which live tantalisingly out of reach, at the very top of their host Oak Tree.<br />
<br />
Even finding an Oak which hosts a colony is difficult enough.<br />

The purple hairstreak is a butterfly in the family Lycaenidae distributed throughout much of Europe, North Africa, Anatolia, Caucasia, and Transcaucasia.
