Lesser Vasa Parrot in Tsingy I can never tell the different between the greater and lesser Vasa, but my educated guess is that would be the lesser one. This one is sitting on a very resilient tree that is growing directly from a limestone cliff, a bizarre fact in itself. We are in a canoe, moving under the parrot. The Lesser Vasa Parrot or Black Parrot "Coracopsis nigra" is a black coloured parrot native to Comoros, Madagascar, Mayotte, and Seychelles. It is one of two species of vasa parrots, the other being the Greater Vasa Parrot "C. vasa"; although, the subspecies "C. n. barklyi", of the Seychelles, is sometimes split as a third species, the Seychelles Black Parrot.
