
Regal Jumping Spider Feeding
Reggie caught a decent sized fly I provided for him today. I was surprised to see him jump sideways and effectively abseil down onto his prey - I always assumed they would have to jump from an elevated position. How wrong I was! I recommend watching on YouTube and dropping the playback speed down to 0.25 :)

"Phidippus regius" is a species of jumping spider in eastern North America. Adult males range from 6 to 18 mm in body length and average 12 mm. Females range from 7 to 22 mm and average 15 mm. "P. octopunctatus" from western North America reaches a larger size.
