Caterpillar of the Hummingbird Hawk Moth (Macroglossum stellatarum)
15 days ago I took a photo of a Hummingbird Hawk Moth, which I thought was laying eggs in one of my plant pots.
Today I found this in that same pot......
A little late, but here is a video to go with the photograph. It was worth the delay :
The hummingbird hawk-moth is a species of hawk moth found across temperate regions of Eurasia. The species is named for its similarity to hummingbirds, as they feed on the nectar of tube-shaped flowers using their long proboscis while hovering in the air; this resemblance is an example of convergent evolution.

I'm so sorry, but I misinformed you all when I said I'd found another Hummingbird Hawk Moth Caterpillar on the pot of Hedge Bedstraw.
There are at present, EIGHT on there, of all different sizes..... at least! Posted 5 years ago
