Bankwalker After spending about 15 minutes in a squat position on a muddy bank chasing these restless, fast moving and shy beetles I gave up. This was the best picture I got (still happy with it). So far these beetles are the most difficult subjects I have encountered, but the colors are really worth the effort.
1. This is the sand loving family of the beetle above:
Hybrid dune tiger beetle (Cicindela Hybrida) Tiger beetle showing of its impressive jaws. Tiger beetles are robbers which eat ants and other crawling insects, so these jaws are not just to impress the females but to actually cut other insects in half.
