
The lanceolated monklet is a species of bird in the Bucconidae family, the puffbirds. It is the only member of the genus ''Micromonacha''. Its natural habitats are subtropical and tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical and tropical moist montane forests.

I had never seen this species, which in Peru is described as being rare and hard to detect. But the station I was staying at had a pair that routinely hunted around the edges of the garden! The male has a recognizable look, with a broken tip to his upper mandible. We called them Alfredo and Josefa.
Like all puffbirds, they are indeed discrete, but have essentially no fear of humans, and we spent hours watching them from up close. Absolutely delightful little birds! Posted 5 years ago

Yes I haven't found other photos of them mating online. It was pure luck: they were together on a branch, and I was taking photos of them, when the male decided to get frisky... It was over in 5 seconds! Posted 5 years ago
