Winged Sumac (Rhus copallinum)
Growing at the edge of a dense mixed forest. This tree popped up in the rehabbed area of our yard when we first moved in last year. I was quite excited to see it growing as it is a forageable tree and attracts all sorts of wildlife. I was also thrilled that it started bearing fruit this year. I have plans to forage the ripened berries in a month or so and turn them into table spice. I may also make sumac "Lemonade"!

''Rhus copallinum'', the winged sumac, shining sumac, dwarf sumac or flameleaf sumac, is a species of flowering plant in the cashew family that is native to eastern North America. It is a deciduous tree growing to 3.5–5.5 metres tall and an equal spread with a rounded crown.
