Calliteara pudibunda - Young caterpillar Jeanette found this caterpillar on her Medlar tree (Mespilus germanica) and kept it in a box for me to photgraph later that night. Meantime, before I had a chance to shoot images, it had moulted into the next stadium (the old skin is on the left behind it).<br />

"Calliteara pudibunda" is a moth of the family Lymantriidae. It is found in Europe and Anatolia. The Dutch common name for the moth is named for famous butterfly and insect painter Anna Maria Sibylla Merian.
