  1. Too complicated! Much taxonomic confusion and/or disagreement it would seem. Bugguide would have the species that has been introduced to Europe to be validly named "alta" with bisonia as synonym. Others will have alta to be a synonym of some other species (Ceresa malina). No one in Europe is considering our species to be anything other than bisonia, and we have it under that name here on JD, so I would just run with that for now ... even if Bugguide seems to suggest otherwise. If BG is right and bisonia is indeed to be taken as a synonym of alta, then having it under the name of bisonia is not a big deal (as it would be a synonym anyway). If BG is wrong, then applying the name alta to this one may be way off ...
But I'm not even here, writing this ... *crawlingbackundermyrock*

    1. Thanks so much for your comment, Arp. I was seriously confused about the taxonomy with this hopper. Also, thanks for making me laugh with your "But I'm not even here, writing this ... *crawlingbackundermyrock*" comment, haha! I needed a good chuckle ;). Posted 5 years ago
    2. I wish I could find some good photos of Ceresa/Stictocephala alta to compare with S. bisonia and a horned treephopper I found last night. Posted 4 years ago
      1. A side-by-side comparison would be really useful. Posted 4 years ago
